出生於香港的劉愷鋒是首位香港人以第一名鋼琴成績畢業於中國星海音樂學院，也是首位香港人獲邀出席優秀畢業生音樂會作演出。主修音樂教育及鋼琴演奏，師從李莉副教授、講師范曉玲，在學期間亦得到李廷強、Tamás Ungá、Yoheved Kaplinsky的指導。隨後受到Yoheved Kaplinsky的啟發開始鑽研科學彈奏技巧對鋼琴演奏的影響，從科學角度拆解各種鋼琴技巧，克服技術上的限制，同時防止手傷等問題，其方法得到廣泛宣傳及應用。
Being described by the media as “pianist’s physician”, is often being invited to conduct lectures, workshops, master classes and provide treatments to pianists in different cities such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Lau has introduced a scientific methodology into his piano teaching, specialised in piano injuries to prevent pain while playing the piano. By applying these scientific techniques on performance and teaching methods, can help to overcome technical constraints, improve both teachers and students’ knowledge on their body and hands structure plus movements, hence to prevent occupational injuries due to practice and performance.
Born in Hong Kong, Jacky Lau is the first Hong Kong pianist who graduated from China Xinghai Conservatory of Music with the best score, also the first from Hong Kong who was invited to perform at the outstanding graduates concert. With a major in music education and piano performance, Lau was under the tutelage of associate professor Li Li, and lecturer Fan Xiaoling; he has also studied with Norman Lee, Tamás Ungá, Yoheved Kaplinsky. As inspired by Yoheved Kaplinsky, Lau began to study the scientific techniques on piano playing, with a perspective to dismantle a variety of piano skills, to overcome technical limitations, while preventing hand injury and other related issues; its methodology is widely publicised and applied.
Lau has won several awards from various competitions, including the Hong Kong – Asia Piano Competition, Singapore International Youth Music Competition. In addition to making public performances in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Lau is often invited to serve as jury for piano competitions, including the Hong Kong Youth Piano Open Competition, Bauhinia Cup Academy Art Talent Triathlon, Hong Kong Students Open Music Competition, Taiwan Asia. Over the years, Jacky is fully dedicated to piano education, and his students have won numerous awards in both international and local piano competitions. With his great passion, he has been invited to write columns for the children’s education journals, set up a webpage to share his piano teaching experience and insights, while provides advice to those pianists in need to resolve all kinds of different issues.
